Around the Helford River
Lots to do over in this area. Escape busy St Ives and head over to Gear Farm, St Martin, Helston, for a large pasty! What makes these pasties so special is the pastry! Very well filled too! Anyway head on down a very narrow and windy road, first left after Gear Farm, quite a steep drop and park opposite the National Trust woodland walk which takes you to Tremayne Quay on the Helford River. Perfect dog walking and great for the kids. The track is suitable for a buggy too.You can also visit the Seal Sanctuary in Gweek which is less than 10 mins drive away.Finish the day off with a drink or even a bite to eat at the Shipwrights Arms where you can sit outside on a nice day and enjoy the views of the Helford River. It's the perfect place for the whole family and it is also completely dog friendly.Further on up the river, Helford Passage Beach offers a most picturesque view of the estuary and it's opposite the wonderful Ferry Boat Inn. This is a fantastic spot for lunch or a late afternoon drink and dip! This is a very popular spot for small boats and yachts and you can get a small ferry across. From Helford Passage you can visit Trebah tropical Gardens, rated one of the finest gardens in the world! Another great day out. Dogs on leads are welcome following a certain route. There is a play area and zipwire for the kids. There is also a plant shop and a great gift shop. You can access Trebah private beach, Polgwidden Cove from the gardens. It's a very scenic spot, where you will also find a kiosk selling drinks and ice cream.
